Travel Post: The Bahamas

IMG_6342

We took off to the heat of The Bahamas this past long weekend. A long overdue indulgence of sun, sand and sea. We settled in at The Cove at the Atlantis, an ultra luxurious resort perched directly seaside and surrounded with palms and pools.

Long early morning walks along the beach with coffee followed by lazy river rides and lazier lunches. We loved how spacious the resort felt, I love my elbow room and this place definitely delivered. Wandering along the many under ground aquarium tunnels, we were most often alone and loved every peaceful minute. We spent many hours taking in the breathtaking aquatic beauty.

Extended dinners over champagne at both Nobu and 77 West overlooking a gorgeous yacht-filled harbour at sunset, were memories I won’t soon forget.

Plunging feet first to my death on near vertical water slides in the enormous water park was an experience I most definitely could have done without (the things you do for the guy you love…I recommend vodka to ease the piercing anxiety of such activities). However the luscious pools and hidden water fall corners were thoroughly enjoyed.

I only regret not booking myself into the resort spa Mandara, for a treatment or two…walking past the sweet aroma and calm atmosphere was intoxicating….next time.

We spent our last day poolside at The Cain club, the fabulous adult only pool bordered by plush day beds, loungers, a DJ and a smattering of private cabanas and high roller tables . A very relaxing day of full sun, great music, many glasses of champagne delivered by the lovely resort staff and some of the best people watching I’ve seen in awhile.

We have a few other destinations on our travel bucket list, but returning to The Cove to bob in the shallow aqua ocean is most certainly in the plan.

Spring Snow

DSC_4898

Hello again. Its been a lonnng time since I shot a personal style post. Feeling a little bit rusty, please bear with me….Welcome to spring. Though you wouldn’t know it considering there are at least a couple of inches of fresh snow on the ground. March is a little tardy on the whole ‘out like a lion’ thing… no hard feelings, I chose to use this (hopefully) final cold front to stretch some legs on a couple of my winter coats which didn’t see a lot of sidewalk time this year. Silver linings, as they say.

This black, fur lined beauty was acquired late in the season. Better late and fur lined than never, I always say… Of course it was a steal foraged on a thrifting outing. I know fur can be a very touchy subject. I prefer not to purchase new furs myself, however I find it damn near impossible to pass up a vintage option like this…no sense having such beauty go to waste when it can be so deeply loved and cared for.

The belt I have on, did not accompany this coat, sadly its original is forever lost. No matter, I love mixing up my belts with my coats, in fact I prefer it. I’ve talked about this on the blog before, its such an easy way to make an old coat look new and interesting again (Emmanuel Alt does it best, as far as I’m concerned).

This little hat I have on has been a winter season staple for me, I get complements on it almost every time I’m out. I love the sporty yet completely chic look of it. It works as well on dog walks down the beach in yoga pants and Sorel boots as it works with a great pair of ankle boot heels, and a killer statement coat.

Despite the current cold, I am feeling that spring energy, starting fresh and new beginnings. I’m very excited and hopeful for what the spring season brings. I have some big plans for this little blog of mine. Up until recently, the blog and my Etsy shop have been a little hobby for which I loved, but had limited time for. I’m looking forward to giving these endeavors a lot more of my time, all of my love, and hopefully putting more of myself and my experiences (both sartorial and otherwise) onto these pages, stay tuned. Also, if you are a vintage junky like me, keep an eye on my shop over on Etsy, I’ve got some serious sartorial swag lined up for the shop….do people still say swag? I dunno.. in any event, my life is all about finding and sharing those special pieces.

More importantly I’ll also be styling almost all of the pieces in the shop into looks that will hopefully inspire my fellow style mavens to create modern, interesting, affordable looks worthy of even the finest street style lens.

Here’s to spring, starting fresh, and going for it.

Well hello there. It’s been a little while since my last post, I’ve been itching to post a little something new. Actually, these photo’s were taken a couple of weeks ago, one beautiful sunny afternoon when the fall colours were just beginning to peak. Currently outside my window it’s the most miserable rainy evening…that icy cold rain, that despite even the finest woolly merino sweaters, a chill sets in the bones. It’s that time of fall here in Toronto, where the beautiful toasty colours are beginning to dissipate, and an icy shade of grey seems to cover everything, a familiar sleepiness sets in…curling up with a tea is the only remedy (chamomile; me as I write).

How perfect are these Theory wide leg pants? I am over the moon and above the stars in love with wide leg pants & flares right now. In fact any time I put on a pair of skinny jeans these days (lazy tried-and-true uniform days), I feel a certain sense of defeat and then I spend the rest of the day under a cloud of dated skinnies regret. I love how fresh the wide cut is, its such an interesting, lengthening silhouette. This pair also have these great sailor style details, with a higher cut waist, and buttons along the pockets, love.

On another note, I’ve been working very hard on bringing regular updates to The Amber Edit Shop. Sourcing fantastic vintage pieces is a joyful pleasure of mine, and because I’ve accumulated so many beautiful items, I’m quite literally running out of room to house them. Thus, new pieces are coming to the shop all the time. Its a personal goal to have something new in the shop every day, so please do check back because even my most beloved pieces will be up for grabs…most notably right now you’ll find some pretty major holiday dresses for a song!

Silver| Sweater Dress

Just a quick post on this busy Friday night. I’m currently running around like a crazy person, gearing up for what I call the ‘Thanksgiving Runaround’. Which is basically 48 hours of non-stop driving, to marathon visit with our loved ones…who are scattered everywhere, spanning from the Niagara region to the Halton Hills. Its wonderful, but its a ‘Runaround’…what’s the price point on helicopter rentals these days? Uber-Heli anyone?

On another note: I’m completely in love with this silvery vintage sweater dress I picked up recently. It’s actually sleeveless with a slight turtle neck collar. I love how the silver picks up the light; it has a very slinky affect. Sweater dresses are one of my favorite pieces to wear throughout the fall-winter season, they are so versatile and easy to dress up or down, or to layer with a great jacket or statement coat – like I’ve styled it here with my fav trench.

Wishing everyone a very happy Canadian Thanksgiving, wish us luck on our ‘Runaround’ – Thanksgiving outfit posts to follow.

Cheers,

xx. A

These overalls are a happy recent addition to my wardrobe. It feels like I’ve been seeing overalls everywhere lately, all over Pinterest and my favorite style inspo-outlets. They’ve been popping up in a multitude of styles, cuts and fabrics. But it seems my eye is always drawn back to the good old, classic denim version.

Initially, I had some mixed feelings about the idea of a grown woman wearing overalls. After all, there is a childlike appeal about them, backed up by the fact that as a kid I owned several well-worn pairs. So when I spotted these Levi’s in a thrift shop for next-to-nothing, I decided to give them a financially pain-free go. Funnily enough, once I pulled them on and hooked the clasps over my shoulders, I experienced a style deja vu: they felt exactly like I remember when I wore them as kid. There’s a playfulness and relaxed feel about them. I paired them here with some mules and this amazing BCBG trench, which I am so in love with (and will likely be featured repeatedly here on the blog).

Overall (<pun), I say yes to overalls. They are almost like an ‘outfit-to-go’. They speak for themselves, very little embellishment needed.

Hope everyone is enjoying this chilly Sunday. I plan to spend the rest of mine under the duvet. I see a major movie marathon in my immediate future, possibly accompanied by a glass of Shiraz (or two).

Happy Sunday Funday, Cheers

Happy Tuesday folks, hope everyone is surviving the Mercury Retrograde situation…I was wondering why my life was falling down around my ankles like a worn out stocking. On the brighter side, here’s a look I plan on putting on repeat this fall; cant go wrong with a light sweater, boyfriend denim and a leather jacket thrown over the shoulders. Layering season has arrived!

I picked up this vintage leather jacket a little while ago at my local Kind Exchange. It was kind of an impulse purchase and when I got it home I wasn’t entirely convinced I’d be keeping it. But as it turns out, due to the fantastic construction and the way the old leather is worn in, I love the look of it thrown over the shoulders (also the gorgeous wine colour lining!). I’m working on embracing a variety of outerwear thrown over the shoulders rather than worn. Certainly not a new look in streetwear or style blogging, but in terms of integrating the idea into real life (from subway cars, to errands to cocktail hour) its a very fun sartorial challenge – more to come, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Don’t forget to pop over to The Amber Edit Shop on Etsy, lots of new items are coming to the shop (I’ve got sultry velvet coming your way) Etsy: TheAmberEdit
