Travel Post: The Bahamas

We took off to the heat of The Bahamas this past long weekend. A long overdue indulgence of sun, sand and sea. We settled in at The Cove at the Atlantis, an ultra luxurious resort perched directly seaside and surrounded with palms and pools.

Long early morning walks along the beach with coffee followed by lazy river rides and lazier lunches. We loved how spacious the resort felt, I love my elbow room and this place definitely delivered. Wandering along the many under ground aquarium tunnels, we were most often alone and loved every peaceful minute. We spent many hours taking in the breathtaking aquatic beauty.

Extended dinners over champagne at both Nobu and 77 West overlooking a gorgeous yacht-filled harbour at sunset, were memories I won’t soon forget.

Plunging feet first to my death on near vertical water slides in the enormous water park was an experience I most definitely could have done without (the things you do for the guy you love…I recommend vodka to ease the piercing anxiety of such activities). However the luscious pools and hidden water fall corners were thoroughly enjoyed.

I only regret not booking myself into the resort spa Mandara, for a treatment or two…walking past the sweet aroma and calm atmosphere was intoxicating….next time.

We spent our last day poolside at The Cain club, the fabulous adult only pool bordered by plush day beds, loungers, a DJ and a smattering of private cabanas and high roller tables . A very relaxing day of full sun, great music, many glasses of champagne delivered by the lovely resort staff and some of the best people watching I’ve seen in awhile.

We have a few other destinations on our travel bucket list, but returning to The Cove to bob in the shallow aqua ocean is most certainly in the plan.

These Diesel shoes are my newest addition to the wardrobe lineup. Normally I would prefer not to do style posts in flat shoes (I require added height please!), but I’ve been kind of obsessing over incorporating these into as many spring looks as possible.

Running shoes are not usually a go-to for me, even though the style greats are all about white runners with everything at the moment. My guy actually spotted these for me, and I found they have been a very refreshing addition.

Spring Snow

Hello again. Its been a lonnng time since I shot a personal style post. Feeling a little bit rusty, please bear with me….Welcome to spring. Though you wouldn’t know it considering there are at least a couple of inches of fresh snow on the ground. March is a little tardy on the whole ‘out like a lion’ thing… no hard feelings, I chose to use this (hopefully) final cold front to stretch some legs on a couple of my winter coats which didn’t see a lot of sidewalk time this year. Silver linings, as they say.

This black, fur lined beauty was acquired late in the season. Better late and fur lined than never, I always say… Of course it was a steal foraged on a thrifting outing. I know fur can be a very touchy subject. I prefer not to purchase new furs myself, however I find it damn near impossible to pass up a vintage option like this…no sense having such beauty go to waste when it can be so deeply loved and cared for.

The belt I have on, did not accompany this coat, sadly its original is forever lost. No matter, I love mixing up my belts with my coats, in fact I prefer it. I’ve talked about this on the blog before, its such an easy way to make an old coat look new and interesting again (Emmanuel Alt does it best, as far as I’m concerned).

This little hat I have on has been a winter season staple for me, I get complements on it almost every time I’m out. I love the sporty yet completely chic look of it. It works as well on dog walks down the beach in yoga pants and Sorel boots as it works with a great pair of ankle boot heels, and a killer statement coat.

Despite the current cold, I am feeling that spring energy, starting fresh and new beginnings. I’m very excited and hopeful for what the spring season brings. I have some big plans for this little blog of mine. Up until recently, the blog and my Etsy shop have been a little hobby for which I loved, but had limited time for. I’m looking forward to giving these endeavors a lot more of my time, all of my love, and hopefully putting more of myself and my experiences (both sartorial and otherwise) onto these pages, stay tuned. Also, if you are a vintage junky like me, keep an eye on my shop over on Etsy, I’ve got some serious sartorial swag lined up for the shop….do people still say swag? I dunno.. in any event, my life is all about finding and sharing those special pieces.

More importantly I’ll also be styling almost all of the pieces in the shop into looks that will hopefully inspire my fellow style mavens to create modern, interesting, affordable looks worthy of even the finest street style lens.

Here’s to spring, starting fresh, and going for it.

Oscars Edit: My Fav Red Carpet Looks

Full Disclosure: I do not watch award shows. I find them boring, drawn out and dull. I do however, ADORE watching the red carpet. Seeing the gowns (and the jewels!) is all the show I need. Thus, I could not wait to get to my computer this morning to pour over the looks of the night in detail.

For me, Kate Hudson had one of the most beautiful looks of the evening (1st photo), the gown she donned for the Governors Ball was pure liquid-gold magic. She always appears so comfortable and relaxed, no matter how high that skirt slit. Always one of my fav’s to see.

My second fav look has to go to Saoirse Ronan (3rd photo). The jewel tone and cut of her gown was STUNNING, she looked so elegantly effortless. I also appreciate that she kept her accessories to a minimum. The dress was so beautiful that the look really felt complete for me.

Same goes for fellow Canadian gal Rachel McAdams (4th photo), I loved the simplicity of her look.

Truthfully, I don’t know anything about Daisy Ridley (second photo). What I do know is her total Chanel look was absolute perfection.

Charlize and Naomi are goddesses. End of story.

Pregnant Anne Hathaway, in that beautiful caftan style gown was divine. She may be one of the most beautiful pregnant women of life.

But my real winner of the night came as quite a surprise: Sarah Silverman won. I’ll be honest here, I am not a fan of her sartorial choices. Ever. A quick google search of her red carpet looks, proves that dear Sarah has a history of showing up a la hot mess. Always slightly disheveled….but not in the cool girl-chic way. More like the “I bought this at Forever 21, 5 years ago” way. But last night, Sarah won. Literally her entire look was streamlined perfection. Her hair was gorgeous, her jewels were understated but beautiful. Don’t even get me started on her makeup, it practically deserves its own blog post.  I recall physically applauding at my computer screen for her. And when I read that her gown was done by the eternally talented Zac Posen, my heart practically burst. Thank you Zac.

You go Sarah, you go.

All Photo’s:

theory wide leg pants 5

Well hello there. It’s been a little while since my last post, I’ve been itching to post a little something new. Actually, these photo’s were taken a couple of weeks ago, one beautiful sunny afternoon when the fall colours were just beginning to peak. Currently outside my window it’s the most miserable rainy evening…that icy cold rain, that despite even the finest woolly merino sweaters, a chill sets in the bones. It’s that time of fall here in Toronto, where the beautiful toasty colours are beginning to dissipate, and an icy shade of grey seems to cover everything, a familiar sleepiness sets in…curling up with a tea is the only remedy (chamomile; me as I write).

How perfect are these Theory wide leg pants? I am over the moon and above the stars in love with wide leg pants & flares right now. In fact any time I put on a pair of skinny jeans these days (lazy tried-and-true uniform days), I feel a certain sense of defeat and then I spend the rest of the day under a cloud of dated skinnies regret. I love how fresh the wide cut is, its such an interesting, lengthening silhouette. This pair also have these great sailor style details, with a higher cut waist, and buttons along the pockets, love.

On another note, I’ve been working very hard on bringing regular updates to The Amber Edit Shop. Sourcing fantastic vintage pieces is a joyful pleasure of mine, and because I’ve accumulated so many beautiful items, I’m quite literally running out of room to house them. Thus, new pieces are coming to the shop all the time. Its a personal goal to have something new in the shop every day, so please do check back because even my most beloved pieces will be up for grabs…most notably right now you’ll find some pretty major holiday dresses for a song!
